Chapter 11

“When does your lease end?” Strap asked Fallon as he reclined on her canopy bed.

Strap had just arrived a few minutes ago. Fallon was already getting ready for bed, flitting around the bathroom doing her nightly routine. She managed to turn him on even when she had that ridiculous headscarf on and a plain, oversized T-shirt. The fact that it was his shirt she was wearing made it even sexier. It swallowed her diminutive frame, but still her soft curves could be found. His manhood swelled as he watched her. Besides a few quick smooches and cuddling, they hadn’t done anything since the day Cash had walked in on them.

“In a couple of months,” Fallon replied, looking at him curiously. “Why do you ask?”

“Cuz your apartment is a one bedroom.” Strap cleared his throat, forcing himself to refocus on the conversation at hand. “We’re gonna need more space with the baby.”

Fallon nodded her head in agreement. “You’re right.”

“So… I was thinkin’ we should start lookin’ for a house. I’m tired of driving all the way over here from Zebulon.”

“A house?” she asked with surprise, lying down beside him. “For us? Are you serious?”

“Yeah. It don’t make no sense to keep throwin’ money at an apartment when we can actually own something and build equity.”

Fallon smiled, impressed by him. “You’ve been really looking into it and thinking about it, huh?”

Strap nodded as he took off his shirt. “I been thinkin’ about a lot of shit. I looked into enrolling at Shaw too…” His eyes traveled to her ring finger. Are you fuckin’ kiddin’ me?

“You don’t think we’re rushing this though?” she asked.

“Shit. We might be…” He nodded at the engagement ring. “Why you still wearin’ it?”

Embarrassed, Fallon looked down at her finger before placing her hands behind her back. “It’s just a habit… It’s not a big deal.”

Strap raised an eyebrow. “You sure?”

“What are you trying to say, Damien?” she questioned, matching his accusatory tone.

He shrugged. “I’m just wonderin’ what’s the real reason you still wearin’ another nigga ring?”

“Are you insecure or something? I’m trying to tell you it’s nothing like that.” Reluctantly she removed the ring and placed it in her nightstand’s drawer.

“It ain’t about bein’ insecure, Fallon. It’s about the shit bein’ disrespectful.” He shrugged. “I don’t know why you still got it anyway.”

Fallon sighed. “I don’t wanna argue with you, Strap.” Because I might say something I’ll regret, she thought. “The ring is off.” She flicked off the light switch before hopping into bed and turning her back to him. “Good night.”

“Yup,” Strap said dully. He was no fool. He was aware there was more to it than Fallon was letting on. Shit ain’t nothing like I thought it would be…
